One More Time

This week I have generally been listening to The Doors

I didn't get them first-time around but now I rather like their mix of basic blues and jazz-noodling.

Having a permanently drunk singer who eventually self-combusts in a bath in Paris (open to debate of course) is surely an added bonus.

I mean, you wouldn't get "Take That's" Gary Barlow exposing himself onstage in Miami (allegedly) and similarly Madonna would be hard-pressed to get a song onto the soundtrack of "Apocalypse Now" - personally I think that "Holiday" would play awkwardly against a jungle treeline decimated by napalm.

When I was 16, through some miracle I manged to persuade my parents that we should all go to the famous Pere Lachaise cemetery in Paris where Jimbo is (allegedly) interred.

At that time you entered the main gate and, following the crude graffiti respectfully daubed on other graves saying "Jim's this way" you made your pilgrimage.

After much ignoring of Proust, Chopin and Wilde we came upon "Le Jim" himself.

Interestingly, there was a bust of Morrison on the gravestone (now removed) and fans had done the decent thing and coloured-in his eyes.

Apart from a collection of empty bottles that would put a swing-park in Motherwell to shame there was naturally a coven of "hippy-chicks" strewn around who seemed to be on some kind of retainer where all they had to do was repeat "to die like a dog, it's unnatural..."

Reality never lives up to the legend but given time the real stars always shine.

Is everybody in???
