Speckled Wood Feeding on Blackberry

Despite the low butterfly numbers being reported from around the UK, one species is having a bumper autumn around here.  Three days ago I reported on my blip that I had seen 10 speckled woods in half a mile around Kinghorn Loch.  Today, at a location 3 miles from that and over just a little longer distance, I counted at least 20 of them.  Half seemed to be in territories at intervals along the track but the other half were in a very small area with over-ripe blackberries in the sunshine and they were having a feast.
Considering that this species only arrived in Fife in August 2014, it has established a thriving population very quickly and is the most successful of the new arrivals attributed to global warming.
