Meridian Line
We have traveled down to Durham for a look at the cathedral and city.
Those blippers who know me will understand I was very happy to see Durham Cathedral has a meridian line. This is where the sun shines through a hole in the (North side) inner cloister window wall and makes a bright dot of light which lines up with a mark on the outer wall at around midday. Its not exactly midday due to the equation of time and Durham not being on the Greenwich Meridian which wasn't established until ~30 years after the set up was installed at Durham. All the same - great fun for anyone who likes this sort of thing :-) The bright dot is higher up the wall in winter, more across the floor in summer - if that makes sense.
Crooke Hall Garden in the afternoon - a hidden gem - perhaps like a smaller more informal version of Hidcote Gardens.
Staying in the P&R tonight so just the MH batteries for power etc.
Off further south tomorrow - probably Saltburn.
The weather looks to be going more autumnal now - not too bad here but turning rainy at home over the weekend.
