Bobbing
I returned from Dodoma in the early morning and went home for a quick turnaround ready for my next trip later in the day. Geographically it doesn’t make sense, but I am heading to Maputo in Mozambique, via Kenya. This involves bobbing up from Tanzania to then drop down again towards the southern end of the continent.
Transiting through Nairobi made me nervous but it was the best route available. In recent days staff at the airport had gone on strike in response to a proposed management takeover of the airport. Volunteers had been drafted in to staff the various functions and I know someone who had been stranded there for 48 hours. Security lines are slow going at the best of times.
In the end, despite no sleep and sitting through those bleary twilight hours, the journey proceeded reasonably well, I ate a burrito whilst I waited and I even ran into a friend in the hallways.
In Dar es Salaam as I went from A to B unpacking and repacking I saw this absolutely huge mound of rubber shoes and sandals.
