Roots
The path around our house was partly, yet heavily undermined by the roots of a rhus typhina (staghorn sumac). The path had become quite bumpy for several metres.
We were going to have a couple of dry days with moderate temperatures, so a good time to work on it. (Of course the forecast was not completely right, we had rain between 5 and 6 in the afternoon :(.)
I first took out the stones and, because they have different sizes and best was to lay them back the way they were laying before, I put them next to the path in exactly the same order.
After removing the grit the next step was to remove all the roots in the upper layer. Some were underarm thick! You can see me struggle with a smaller one here.
Tomorrow I will put the grit back and lay all the stones back, probably with some force of my rubber hammer.
