School's Out

My goodness what a day. Emotional. Strange. Exhausting. Brilliant.

It started this morning by dropping off Grace and Ophelia for the last day of term at school/preschool. Then Arwen and I went to the last of our mum and baby movement classes at the Burnlaw Centre. They are hosting a retreat this weekend so we were able to use one of their tents for the yoga, dance and singing session. It was so lovely to be out in the open with the breeze blowing through. The babies were happy too. I liked this set up for the washing up. Made me smile!

Afterwards, we got back to the village just in time to catch the end of the leavers' assembly at the middle school, a school where I was a pupil 30 years ago and a teacher at for over 8 years some time later. This year, as has been mentioned before in my journal, it was decided to close the school, so all the children were leaving. They got a good send off and there were many tears shed by pupils and staff alike.

After the assembly, there was a shared lunch for all the pupils, parents, staff, ex staff and ex pupils who were there. Ophelia came back from preschool in time to join us there for a while and stuff down some if the buffet food despite the fact she had just eaten her school dinner, before heading back for the preschool leavers' party. There were more tears, especially from parents whose youngest child was leaving to start school in September. The children played games, had a muck about and chomped their way through copious amounts of party food. Yes, Ophelia ate her fair share too.

Then it was time to get Grace back from school, before all of us went to visit Hubby at work. Arwen and Ophelia were in such a mess from the mud kitchen play area and party tea at preschool that I needed to go home to bath the pair of them quickly before we headed out to Hexham to join the middle school staff past and present for a BBQ. It was good to have a catch up with ex colleagues, though we didn't see all of them as we had to leave after an hour to get Grace to her ballet performance.

Dumped Grace off once she had been dressed and made up in her costume as we have had friends round for a curry night this evening great chat and great company, and some positive moves towards Hubby possibly getting his photography project off the ground. It was only slightly marred when Miss Ophelia Creosote had the metaphorical wafer thin mint to tip her over the edge and threw up all over the place. Proper projectile it was. Not surprising given all she ate I suppose.

I've had to come to bed now as it's been such a busy day that I'm fit to drop, but as I type this at gone 10:30pm, Grace has still not been delivered back to us from the ballet show. Is this a taster of things to come when the kids stay out late?
