Hoose on the Hill

Welsh Highland Railway

A great day on the Welsh Highland Railway for a birthday treat. (Four days in advance as Carys and Jack could join us today.) The weather was perfect - although Porthmadog was the hottest place in Wales today. I was most impressed with the amount of work that must have gone into getting the line working again and the sheer ingenuity of the original builders.

The picture shows the front end of our train taken from the back carriage. It shows how tight the bends are on this line. Only the Beyer Garrett locomotives with their immense power and articulated chassis could pull trains this long.

Followed by a great meal at Bwyty Mawddach, a lovely new restaurant overlooking the Mawddach estuary with Cader Idris as a backdrop. Stunning
