Titans of Portugal

“Titans are monumental steam powered cranes and a legacy of the architectural and engineering era of iron and steam power. A mark of Portuguese and world industrial heritage, the Titan was used in the construction of the Port of Leixões between 1885 and 1895, in Matosinhos. After its collapse in 2012, many of the original pieces were kept. It was recently recovered, preserving many of its original pieces. Now it's open to visitors, and it is now possible to walk along the almost 69 meters in length and 17 meters in height.

We walked from the ship to visit this splendid piece of industrial heritage demonstrating how the crane was used to put the building blocks of the pier in situ before being moved along to the next placement
