Bob Dylan and the Band - Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues (Live at Madison Square Garden)(recorded live, 30 January 1974, Madison Square Garden, New York NY)
The 27 CD box set by Bob Dylan and the Band, The 1974 Live Recordings, chronicles their American tour from January and February 1974, beginning in Chicago and ending in California. It was released on this day and I had pre-ordered it.
It was the first time Dylan had played live with the band in eight years, though they had just recorded the album Planet Waves together. He had hired them initially in 1965 when they were called the Hawks and had split from Ronnie Hawkins as his backing band. They had toured with Dylan when he went electric in 1966 and helped him recuperate from his motorcycle accident when they made the Basement Tapes at Big Pink, after which they changed their name to The Band.
