Exploring Zadar Old Town
What a fabulous view to wake up to! We have a huge balcony overlooking the old town, river, marina and bridge.
The apartment is immaculate too. Everything is there which you would need lots of little finishing touches..
We headed through the massive gate at the ancient walls. There is a lot of history but I’ve forgotten! They are a UNESCO site so they are impressive. Our first stop was breakfast in a lovely Cafe and fresh fruit and yogurt and granola was tasty and a massive bowl of it too.
We wandered through the narrow streets and into an ancient church (St Dinatus) not an ornate one) but is all white and has musical evenings due to the acoustics. Also told of the history but again it’s gone through one ear and out the other. It had great light though, I remember that!
Wandered more and came across a beautiful Trg (square) with stunning trees for shade and we stopped off for lunch (our main meal) which was simply delicious shrimp (prawns) risotto. There was a very good street musician playing to serenade us for the meal. Nothing finer than sitting outdoors in the shade eating good food and listening to lovely music. When we finished we wandered up to the place with five ornate wells in another Trg. The park next to it was beautiful too with many varieties of trees all named with a tag.
We ended up at the marina just outside the walls and walked down there and along the gorgeous promenade. There was an ice cream shop and sat there eating very good pistachio gelato. Up there with the best.
Passed by the sea organ - more of that later .
Home to the apartment to freshen up and a cuppa the. Out again and walked along the prom again as far as the outdoor swimming g lido that also had a diving platform. Enjoyed watching the young lads throwing themselves into the water doing somersaults with no fear. Two girls arrived up the steps but took half an hour to pluck up the courage to jump. One of them went in seat first and thudded!
Walk through the old town and listened on the steps to another very good street musician at the Roman forum next to the church. He was amazing .
The highlight of the evening was the setting of the sun. Played along to the tunes from the sea organ. What sights and sounds.

Sunsets are a thing here. There were hundreds of us watching and then when the sun dipped an applause started. Not on the same level of applause as Porto but still good lol!
Home and exhausted (again)!
