Woven Sails
We went to the Museum of Modern Art in Machynlleth today to see the opening of an exhibition by our friend Vicky Ellis. She is a talented artist weaver and the new exhibition "Woven Sails" has at its heart the seafaring tradition of Ceredigion. Each piece represents an 18th or 19th Century commercial sailing vessel who plied its trade along the coast of West Wales. There was a short history of each vessel many of which had ended their days being wrecked, often under interesting circumstances. The exception is the rainbow striped sail on the left which represents the 45 tragic deaths (to date) this year of desperate refugees undertaking the hazardous voyage across the English Channel. It really is an interesting and inspiring exhibition.
