"Many of the thatched roof villas and apartments around Arnhem display the merlot flag decorated with a leaping pegasus, dedicated to the British Airborne forces, to ensure the sacrifices made for their freedom are not forgotten."
Market would be the largest airborne operation in history, delivering over 34,600 men of the 101st, 82nd and 1st Airborne Divisions and the Polish Brigade. 14,589 troops were landed by glider and 20,011 by parachute. Gliders also brought in 1,736 vehicles and 263 artillery pieces. 3,342 tons of ammunition and other supplies were brought by glider and parachute drop. (Wikipedia)
We were on a so-called shopping walk through Arnhem. We wanted to see the city and buy a pair of shoes at Barefoot & More on the way. There are only two barefoot shoe shops in the Netherlands and Arnhem is on our way to Bussloo where the annual family meeting will be tomorrow.
Arnhem is a nice city and if you want to go shopping there are plenty of shops to do so. There are also plenty of restaurants and coffee shops to complete your relaxing day.
