Orange is the New Black

Monty and I took a road trip this morning – he’s returning to Loughborough to start his final year at university. We left just after five to beat the traffic on the M25, although it was still quite busy. The plot to convert the motorway network into US Highways is progressing – ever more of the route was speed restricted down to 50mph. But apart from that minor (grumpy old man) niggle, we did make good time and arrived just after nine. We quickly decanted Monty’s possessions into his new student house and headed out for an excellent breakfast at the Centro Lounge… this has become a bit of a family tradition whenever we take Monty up to Loughborough.

I was back on the road by about half-eleven and got home just before three—not bad for a 400-mile round trip. I took this photograph on the way up in the morning when we stopped for coffee at the South Mimms services on the M25. The gorgeous architecture of the arched roof and the lighting lent themselves well to a monochrome image… and the chap sitting nearby eating his porridge, wearing hi-vis trousers, added the finishing touch.
