Seizing the moments
Debbie messaged just as I was finishing reading to sleep and asked if I was free for kayaking today. As I was parkrunning we agreed to meet early.afternoon.
This necessitated moving a planned supermarket visit from the afternoon to when it opened at 6am. I was rewarded with a beautifully pink sky.
shop completed I headed to the Prom. The expected high tide left only a little debris to be cleared and it was a lovely, warm morning. Marion did a twirl in her newly acquired '25' tee and we headed swiftly to the zoo cafe afterwards so that I could get away quickly.
The drive to Suffolk was uneventful and I arrived on time. Debbie's household, she said, has.been full of bugs this week and Al.was.lying on the couch,.still.feeling quite poorly. The kayaks were already loaded onto the roof of the car and we were soon on our way to Sudbury.
We paddled to a popular riverside pub, the Henny Swan, where we queued to buy a pint of beer to enjoy in the garden. Like us, many, many people were taking advantage of the sunshine and the river and pub were both very busy. There was a woman sat at an adjacent table that had dozens of empty glasses on it and would, I thought have made an excellent picture. Two dachshunds wearing floatation jackets with fins also caught my eye. Debbie isn't attached to her phone like me and my picture taking obsession felt a bit intrusive. A couple of quick snaps were all I managed.
We saw lots of dragon flies, cows moving in single file and a couple of swans. The decline in bird population is very obvious and rather sad.
After helping unload the Kayaks I headed home. It was getting quite late so I rang and ordered fish and chips for collection. The shop does not accept card payments so I was a little panicked when I found the cash machine to be out of order. The man in front decided to drive to a nearby machine but I opted to ask for an IOU.
The guys in the chip shop were happy to extend me credit until I go next time. I guess its not unusual that the machine is broken. Phew.
