Clever boy!

We have had a great day, the sun has shone, it's been lovely and warm and we have a clever dog.
As we took our usual walk along the dog beach we got the usual questions off the kids as they watched the other dogs throwing themselves into the ocean after their toys 'why won't Merlin go in the water like they do mom? can we throw him in?' My usual reply is that Merlin only likes to get his toes wet and if you throw him in he will never go near the water again!
Well Merlin must have had enough of their moaning (and who can blame him?!) so he threw himself into the ocean just like the other dogs!
The look on the kids faces was priceless and to be honest I think Merlin surprised himself aswell. So although we may not think dogs understand us completely I would have to say I don't think this is true at all.
As I write this Merlin is wrapped in his towel after a nice bath and being treated like a hero by the kids - not so daft after all!
