Talks
Our first full day at sea .. and luckily the mats in the elevator told us it was Sunday.
We had breakfast in the buffet and then went to a talk about some of the activities on offer before a bracing deck walk of 6 turns = 2 miles.
Next was a talk from the resident naturalist about the whales( humpback and fin) and not whales ( orcas , dolphins and seals) as well as bird species we might expect to see in the area as we head up to Alaska.
Lunch was an Alaskan brunch and then we headed back to hear a talk specifically about the pods of whales and behaviour they exhibit , such as bubble netting and singing.
After that we actually did different things after 10 days of 24/7 togetherness …
Pip went to a talk on Glacier Bay and I went up to the Crows Nest to read and scan the water.
Tonight was formal night so we got gussied up and went to the Captain’s reception before dinner . We’re definitely getting older when the Captain seems about 25 and the cruise director 16 at a push!
Tomorrow we arrive at the pilot station and the scenic commentary starts at 7am although we don’t arrive in Juneau until 1:30pm .We also have another hour clock change to contend with!
Fun fact about Juneau; it’s been the state capital since 1959 when Alaska became the 49th state but is not connected to the rest of Alaska by road; the only way to get in is by sea or air
