Life in a Northern Town

Auroras and smartphones

I was following a very pessimistic aurora forecast until about midnight when it suddenly picked up - Reykjavík is a very safe city so I went down to the harbour on my own and found some fellow tourists there. I couldn’t be bothered to take my DSLR and tripod - they weren’t needed. We spent a good hour enjoying the lights (more in extras) and the smartphones did pretty well with all the ambient light. I’m tired today but tonight there’s no cloud cover so I imagine I’ll be doing it all again.

So today we’ve done the Golden Circle - it’s nearly 8 years since I’ve done it and it now has many more facilities. See extras for Öxarárfoss at Thingvellir, Strokkur at Geysir, Gullfoss and Kerið Crater. Oh my goodness the weather is absolutely splendid!

20,000 steps and the day is still young. Middle-aged perhaps.
