Distracted
Today was going to be the great start of the major development that I've been to busy to begin, but I'd forgotten that I had a morning of lectures to attend. In the end, only one was useful, two were dull, and the one given by my friend from Imperial was sadly a bit of a mess.
At lunch I somehow managed to lose the people I might have wanted to sit with, and was finishing eating as they finally passed me looking for somewhere to sit. Feeling frustrated, I went for a walk passing this brick church in a nearby park. Passing an Aldi, I did some grocery shopping, but failed to find coffee filter papers, and tomorrow morning I will use the last one!
Having failed to find a moment to chat to my friend earlier, I decided to return to my office via the foyer and, after having a coffee, I caught her sitting alone, and we had a good chat. Then two other folk joined us, and I felt part of the scene.
With not enough time left to make a serious start on the main business, a topic from the good morning lecture prompted me to investigate a minor property of our solver until it was time to leave for the "speakers" dinner. This was in the beer garden of a nearby restaurant, and half of the monstrous pork knuckle that I ordered will make dinner for me tomorrow! I sat next to my friend, but ended up chatting to the PhD student on my right much of the time, as well as listening to and contributing to the general inconsequential chat about families, languages, nationalities and passports that is the stock chat when people don't want to discuss work.
If you like toilet humour, then you might also appreciate the extra!
