Low Fell
I had taken a shot of this view from Low Fell in 2023 (extra), it was one of the first images I'd taken carrying around my first proper camera rather than smartphone. I didn't have much idea about composition but I liked the tree and the Lakeland scene. Subsequently I put it in a camera club competition and it was well received with some advice about handling the bright sky which was encouraging.
So we returned to the spot , 18 months on, could I do any better?
I didn't look back at my original before heading out, I was thinking to try to approach it afresh.
Comparing them now, the obvious difference is that I've taken the new image from higher up which has revealed more of the valley , initially I worried I'd lost the tree subject, but I think the higher viewpoint brings the valley midground and surrounding hills more into play..
Have I fallen into my old trap, trying to get too much in to a composition and not having a subject?
