In Kirkcudbright. The house was interesting, especially seeing where and how Hornel worked, and the paintings were lovely, but the garden was the outstanding part of the visit. So contained and private, trees and shrubs, some I had never seen before, gently changing colour. It did help that there was no one else but me there at the time, but it was a lovely peaceful space.
Also, the Katsura tree,  whose leaves smell of burnt sugar at this time of the year, was wonderful. First time I've smelt it for years !
