Guzmania

One of thousands of epiphytic Bromeliads. These "Vase plants" use other plants / trees for support only, to enable them to get closer to sunlight. As they do not usually have access to the ground and soil they absorb water through the leaf bases.
Most Bromeliads are from tropical Americas. But the airplant, "Spanish Moss" is common in many warm Southern US states, particularly "The Everglades " also a member of the Bromeliads.
