Margate
Day out along the coast today. We first visited the crematorium at Margate to find out where Sharon's grandparents were buried. We also had a wander around the cemetery to look at the war graves and see if we could find another ancestor.
After there we parked in the Dreamland car park in Margate and had a wander up to where Sharon's grandparents used to live. We then walked back to the coast and had a wander along the beach. We found the graffiti in the first extra on the way back to the car.
We then drove up the coast to Minnis Bay where we had another good wander along the beach and took photos of beach huts. The second extra shows somewhere on this beach where the stones have taken over - it looks like these used to be steps down on the beach. We stopped for a cuppa and cake with a view over the sea, then drove along the coast again.
Our next stop was a Herne Bay, where we took the third extra. This is the disused end of the pier which is over 1km into the sea. The pier was destroyed in a storm in the 1970's and is now considerably shorter.
Finally we stopped at the headland at Reculver Towers for a view of the ruin, before heading back to the cottage for dinner.
