Cornus kousa, Chinese dogwood

I spotted this amazing fruit while walking up Beehive Lane. I had previously noticed the lovely white flowers on this dogwood, and even tried to take a cutting! But I never noticed it had fruit before. They are apparently edible, but described as insipid. Perhaps I will nibble one!
I made a batch of apple and apricot chutney this morning, it looks really good and uses apples from Howe Ridding, one of the heritage trees. They were lovely sound apples and just going to waste….
