Have Camera Will Travel

Looking for a blip

This morning we had a call from our vet to say Monty’s ashes were ready to collect so after lunch we went and brought our boy home. A few tears were shed.

While we were out we thought it would be a good opportunity for a blip down the seafront but the heavens opened making it impossible for a walk so we headed home blipless.
Mr PC suggested a detour and we went in search of the Easter Island sculptures.

The statues are a symbol of the connection between Scarborough and Easter Island. Scarborough is a port city that has a long history of trade with the Pacific Islands. In the 18th century, Scarborough was a popular destination for sailors who were returning from voyages to the Pacific. Many of these sailors brought back souvenirs from their travels, including Moai statues.

In 2015 a local artist David Shepherd carved a series of eight wooden heads and they were installed in Jonno’s Field a local nature reserve. The heads are all different shapes and sizes and they are carved in the style of the Moai statues of Easter Island.
