N’Awlins
We took our second flight from Atlanta to New Orleans last night, taxi to the French Quarter, finally falling into bed at 22.30 local time, but 04.30 UK time, 22 hours after our alarm went off!
We were awake very early, body clocks not quite in sync yet.
Up & out before 8.30, was already very warm, but quiet, we walked a fair few kms, down to the River, saw the fab Steamboat, lots of big hotels, then wended our way towards the French Quarter for our first taste of local food. We shared a “big breakfast” in Maspero’s, eggs sunny side up, ham, sausage slice, proper hash brown, grits with cheese, jambalaya, we really enjoyed it :-)
We wandered around Bourbon Street area looking at the architecture, as my blip shows, complete with fire hydrant, then on to Louis Armstrong Park, got chatting to a local guy, who gave us so much insight into the black history going back as far as the 1700s.
By 2pm we were back at our hotel, for a much needed cool down, a dip & an hours lazing in the sunshine.
We’ve also sampled our first beignets, very nice, at Cafe Beignet, saw our first Street Car, don’t think it was called Desire ;-)
I think seafood is on the menu for this evening…… C has been looking at the various restaurants, they all look pretty good :-)
