Two concerts today, plus a talk on Romani and Traveller music. My very first proper job included working with Romany and Travelling people, focusing on education and the law (usually the right to pitch), but I knew nothing of their music. I learned a little today but less than I'd hoped.

The lunchtime concert by the Paddington Trio was exhilarating. Exciting musicians plus music I was pleased to be introduced to: part of Piano Trio Two by Judith Weir, Rebecca Clarke's piano trio and a witty piece, Freakshow, by Sam Perkin.

I enjoyed this evening's concert less, even though it featured much more established musicians. Frank Martin's Trio on Irish Folk Themes was fine but marred by an over-exuberant violinist; Bridge's Valse Russe was slushy (the music, not the playing); in Elgar's Violin Sonata the piano (Polina Leschenko) was too loud but I didn't like the music enough to care much, though the rest of the audience loved it.

During the interval I thought it must be me and my fatigue (though I know I'm much less fond of Elgar than many people) but afterwards Walton's Façade Suite for two pianists was entertaining enough then I did enjoy Samuel Coleridge-Taylor's Clarinet Quintet even though, again, the balance was wrong, with the strings too loud for the clarinet.

But yes, I must sleep. The busiest three days of this festival are the next three and I don't want to fall asleep in a concert.

I know this is uninteresting for most blippers, but hey, my record of my life.
