Tiny Frog and a Monster Storm
Spotted this little, less than 1" long, frog this morning. It's a Greenhouse frog, an introduced species native to Cuba and the Caribbean Islands. This one apparently lives comfortably in our compost bin. I chased the poor thing around a bit to get a decent photo. I'm not a fan of introduced species but it's hard to dislike such a cute little amphibian.
C and I are about as prepared as we're going to be for Hurricane Helene. Even managed to squeeze the car into the garage. Helene is moving quickly with sustained winds around 120mph, a Category 3 storm at this time. Strengthening is expected. It's beautiful outside right now but things will go downhill quickly after sundown. We're on the east (right) side, aka... the 'dirty' side of the storm. Wind gusts from 35-70mph are predicted. There is a 'Tornado Watch' in effect. Tornados are possible and must be planned for. Major power outages are expected. We don't usually have problems with flooding where we live, thankfully, but you never really know.
Both C and I have dealt with hurricanes all our lives. We know that each is unique and must be respected for their very dangerous power. We'll take care and I'll check in with you...on the other side. m
