Brechin's Bar - Govan
Bar & Cardell Halls -
Brechin’s Bar is a Category B listed building located on a prominent site within the Govan Conservation Area, at the junction of Burleigh Street and Govan Road. It was built in 1894 in Scots Baronial style and comprises a pub on ground floor level, the Cardell Halls on first floor level, and a separate apartment in the attic.
The building is currently in a fairly poor state of repair externally – particularly the stone work – which detracts from the architectural quality of the building and the character of the conservation area. Because of this, and its prominent location, Brechin’s Bar was targeted as one of the ‘Priority Projects’ to be completed through Govan Cross Townscape Heritage Initiative.
