Symbolism

The Brandenburg Gate dates from 1791, having been built on the old city gates.

It has been a symbol of different things, according to the dramatic events Berlin has witnessed since then. It's interesting how some large constructions can mean different things to different people, and I wonder what monuments we know now will represent in 100 years time.

This Sunday on marathon day, some 80,000 people will run under the arches and form their own very personal interpretations.
