A walk in York

Had a lovely tootle around York today. It was a much cooler day - thank goodness, I was practically melting in the office yesterday - and a bit overcast, but still warm enough, and nice to go into some of the air conditioned shops.

I got off the park and ride bus (Leeds, why don't you have this, you're really missing out!) at Clifford Street and walked along Coney Street, past the Church of St Martin-Le-Grand, outside which hangs this marvellous clock. I was going to get some nice gin in Demijohn, but they only had one person serving and she was on the phone with a queue of people waiting. I went off instead in search of a craft shop (found - result!) and came across a few gems which I wouldn't have otherwise found.

Ink sells old vinyl, old books, vintage pictures and postcards, and I found some old Ordinance Survey maps in the corner which will come in hand as card backgrounds.

Blossom & Walker looks from the outside like one of so many shabby chic hells heavens, but inside is so much more. There is some of that, granted, but there's more really beautiful stuff in there.

And I stopped off for tea and cake in Me & Mrs Fisher, a lovely little teashop with mismatching tables, chairs and crockery. A smashing cuppa, lovely cake and crafty bits everywhere. And a basket of spare vintage crockery at £1 a piece. Well, it would've been rude not to...

So, I picked up a few bits and pieces (as is my wont - I can't see the point in window shopping) and sat on a bench for a while afterwards watching as couples, families, friends and singles walked past laughing and smiling. And arguing and fighting lol.

And I've decided to ignore the insulting profanity from one 'lad' - what is it about some guys, that the only way to make yourself feel like a man in front of your mates is to do it at the expense of someone else's self esteem?

Hope everyone has had a lovely day - who knew we'd be glad for a bit of a breeze??!
