Tiles

We lived in Leiden , in the Netherlands, when I was eight years old. My dad collected these tiles that were mostly given to him as a gift by a friend who tore down old houses.( een sloper)
In the old Dutch houses the kitchen had as a backsplash whole walls with these tiles, as they were made in Delft’s factories in the 16 hundreds. Of course most tiles got broken but every once in a while one came out without too much damage.

When my mom died she had about 60 tiles above her bed, that we three sisters got to share. Not an easy task.

Nice weather today. We even did some yard work in our ‘potato- lot’
