Island Life
What a full day!
I arrived at St Luke’s for 8.30am armed with a notebook and pen for a briefing about how to set up the laptop, projector, mics and sound in the church hall. This is so that Sheila and I can cover for Martin in two weeks’ time when he’s away on holiday. It’s been nearly ten years since I last did anything technical, which was of course when I was still a BBC Studio Manager looking after the sound on BBC Radio as my job. I’m quite looking forward to it!
After the service and a quick cup of tea, I headed over to Mersea Island (having checked the tides first, as sometimes you can’t drive across the Strood, the causeway road to the island). My niece and her husband have just bought a lodge there, and this was my first visit. It’s so lovely and peaceful there, very relaxing. We had a delicious roast lunch at the nearby restaurant, and I abandoned the weight-watching in favour of an ice-cream sundae for afters. My sister was meant to join us, but has been quite poorly the past week or so and sadly couldn’t come over.
On my journey home, I realised I’d forgotten to take any photos at all whilst on the island (I really must try harder!). So my blip today is a view looking back towards the road I’d just driven along between the villages of Tolleshunt Knights and Tiptree, including a rather dramatic sky presaging rain later today and with clouds smoothed out by a rather strong wind. The field in the photo separates the two villages, so we all fervently hope that it never gets built on to join them up and spoil their very separate identities.
