An ordinary life....

Hedgie Houses...

Tidying up the living room today and little Hedgie was looking at me from his seat on top of the firewood pile (so I sat him on the sofa to pose for my blip :-) He reminded me of a conversation I had with N the gardener last week about keeping an eye out for hedgehogs in the garden as they start preparing for hibernation.

We had a conversation that now is the time to put a hedgehog house in the garden to give them time to get used to it before they actually need it.  I would love to but with Lola prowling round the garden, I'm not sure it would be a good idea.

Today I've been in winter cooking mode.  With Alan on holiday, D out and about on various errands, Lola and I had the kitchen to ourselves, so music and apron on, ingredients looked out...let the chopping begin.

Soon a beef ragu was simmering in the Aga oven and a pot of sweet potato, coconut, chilli and ginger soup was simmering on the stove.

While they cooked I cleared out the fridge then tackled the larder cupboard.  A jar of olives (no idea where they came from as I never buy preserved olives) a tin of chickpeas, some wholegrain mustard, a small jar of whisky marmalade (I'm assuming from a Christmas hamper as again, not something I would buy) and a partridge in a pear tree packet of noodles, all out of date.

Ragu ready, it was turned into two lasagne dishes, soup liquidised and divided into foil dishes and all in the freezer ready to be enjoyed another day.

More cooking tomorrow.  Slow cooked beef stew, apple crumble and Empire biscuits in preparation for a blip visitor on Tuesday :-))
