Subway Sleepers!
Today only we are in the great city of San Francisco - what to do? Having been here before, we had seen most of the tourist attractions, except for one - the famous island prison known as Alcatraz. Since the first available tickets were in the middle of August, we looked elsewhere for entertainment. In the southwest part of the city there is the Stern Grove Festival, held in the park of the same name on each summer Sunday. So we got directions, took the subway near Union Square and walked down the long steep hill through the large trees (I wish I knew their proper names) to the beautiful outdoor amphitheater. We made our donation and shamelessly moved to the chairs designated for folks of a certain age. Why not, we met the criteria?
The featured performance today was the famous Kronos Quartet, originally from San Francisco and celebrating their 40th anniversary, but the opening "act" was the group I fell in love with, a local string quartet that also sings - the "Real Vocal String Quartet". Great stuff! And then the even longer walk back up the long steep hill to catch the trolly.
Give a Listen!!!
I couldn't resist catching these subway sleepers on our way to the park. Tomorrow we hop back on Amtrak to Bakersfield, where we will rent a car and drive to Nevada.
