Lady Wantage

.....the one sitting down. This statue sits in the
entrance area of Northampton's Guildhall.

Harriet Sarah Jones-Loyd was a noted art collector and benefactor. She was also one of the wealthiest women of her time. She was instrumental in setting up the National Aid Society, which was the forerunner of the British Red Cross Society. In 1892 she donated Abington Manor House and land from the estate to the people of Northampton for use as a park and museum. This sculpture is part of a series of five statues of historical figures with a strong connection to Northampton.
