Hoiho
We have a new addition to our household. A Hoiho, or Yellow-eyed Penguin , and ours is made out of steel.
It was voted the NZ bird of 2024, and is dear to our hearts as they can be found on the Otago Peninsula, where we lived before moving to Wānaka 6 years ago. It is one of the worlds most rare penguins- yet we remember when we could go to our favourite beach at dusk and watch them come out of the water. There would be 100s of them on the hillside.
When we visited that beach a few weeks ago, we saw one…….
Thank you so much for your comments, stars and hearts for yesterdays photo of “flying Frida”. I had no doubt she would manage the cattle stop….but if she hadn’t, it could have been a nasty injury. She is also adept at walking across the cattle stops!
