The Ivy Bridge
We had to go to Ivybridge this morning. This small town is about 10 miles from Plymouth and at the Southen extremity of Dartmoor National Park. It gets it's name from a 13th century hump-backed bridge which was the only means of crossing the river here until 1830. Either side of the ivy covered bridge the river cascades down over the granite rocks. I few yards further up stands a still impressive mill with a tall chimney. The mill was used in the manufacture of paper for over 200 years and utilised the power generated by the force of the river. The extra shows the water cascading down through the town taken from the new bridge a short distance to the south of the old bridge seen here.
