Mother-in-law

Today's the day …………………………. for a studio portrait

This is a photograph of Margaret, my lovely Mother-in-law, taken when she was 18 years old (or so it says on the back) by D. C. Harries.  He was a photographer in the town of Llandeilo, Carmarthenshire.  He had a bookshop in the main street with a photographic studio at the back, where he took his pictures.  And back then, getting your photograph taken was a serious task.  It involved getting dressed up and sitting on a special seat - and proper posing.  And when you got the portrait photographs, they would have an embossed stamp with the name of the photographer on them.

Had she lived on, she would have been 100 years old today.  As it was, she died in the early 1980s, when she was in her sixties - far too soon.  She was just beginning to do the things that she had always wanted to do - like travel to see a bit of the world.  Her early life had been a tough one but somehow, she had managed to survive the hardships and had gone on to make a real success of it.

She was a lovely, warm and caring person, with a lively personality - and I miss her to this day .....................
