Mystery telegraph pole!

This morning's walk took me to Island Hill and rather than walk across the causeway to Rough Island I walked in the opposite direction.  Walking along the rocky shore close to lands end I came across this telegraph pole standing no where near to any human habitation.  There must be a reason why it was put here!
