Liberation

At the approach to the beach outside our apartment, this memorial pays tribute to the allied soldiers that came ashore here in August 1944 to liberate Provence from the Germans.  It is hard to imagine when you see the sailing boats and beach chairs, that men with guns once mounted this beach, prepared to sacrifice their lives for the freedom of France.

My extra is a close-up of the commemorative plaque which carries more detail.
