Time and Space
With a lovely clear night over the valley, it seemed a great opportunity to capture some star trails.
I set the tripod up in the light, and took some test shots for focus before dark. The great thing about only using the AF-ON button on the D800E for focusing is that when you set the remote relese you don't have to worry about the camera trying to focus before each shot, nor do you have to worry about setting the lens, or camera, to manual focus. Easy as.
This shot is a composite of 102 30-second exposures at f2.8, all of which are then stacked and set up in a neat app called StarStaX on the Mac. All in all a very straightforward process.
Probably the hardest thing in all of this is finding a location with no sky-glow. Not a problem for me, out in the wilds of Banks Peninsula....
