A small town on the river Torridge in Devon, Bideford was once England's third largest port, albeit about 500 years ago. Shipbuilding, and trade with other ports, played an important part in its development.
Famous explorers like Drake and Grenville sailed from Bideford on their epic journeys.
It is also said that, having left Bideford in 1588, the first British colony (about 80 people) was established in North America.
Tomorrow's history lesson is how old fossils like me have managed six years of blipping without being made to leave. Thanks for all your kindness and support so far.

Many thanks to Steveng for hosting.
