A moment in time

The Loch Shira

We were at the first Education Group meeting of the winter season this morning.  Harvey gave us his description of his time as an evacuee during the Second World War.  He is 97 now I believe, and although he is frail, his voice is still strong, and his spirit.  Our new premises take a bit of getting used to, and the tea ladies were not too happy with the arrangements.  I hope it improves.

The day was turning into a beautiful sunny day, and Bob suggested we make the most of it, as we won't get too many like this now that winter is approaching.  So we headed to the sea at Largs.  It was brilliantly sunny and quite warm, and I had a long walk along the promenade to where the river meets the sea, the Firth of Clyde.  Bob had a shorter walk and then sat with a coffee in the sun waiting for me.

There is a new (to us) fish and chip takeaway shack ont he promenade, with some tables and chairs outside, and I was hungry for a fish supper.  So we ordered one, freshly made, it won the award for the best chippy in Scotland for last year.  And they deserved it, it tasted great.  The sea air makes you hungry!

We sat on for a while, and the serving lady came out and had a blether with us.  A young couple were eating their meal, and feeding the seagulls, and she went over and asked them to desist, as it causes big problems when the seagulls start to divebomb people to get at their meals.  She was very pleasant about it, and they stopped.

I hope we get some more days like this before the cold weather comes.

We were sitting right at the ferry terminal, and we watched the CalMac ferry plying back and forth to Millport.  I love these ferries, I know there is a lot of controversy about them, and their ferries are all very old and not serving the islands as well as they should.  Nevertheless, they are beautiful boats and make a great picture.  My picture shows the ferry Loch Shira just leaving Largs for Millport, you can see its destination on the other side.  Behind the island of Millport, the big mountains are the Isle of Arran, a bit further out on the Firth.  The picture looks great in 'large'.
