Piece of cake
Emboldened by managing to get the dismantled greenhouse to the metal salvage yard a week ago, I thought I'd use the same method to get rid of the ventilation ducts that have been a trip hazard in the garden for the last 18 months. I had to lay the bin on its back to get the long one in and it was then a bit of an effort to lift, but after that it was fairly straightforward. I realised, as I wove my way along trying to avoid overhanging branches, that I've never before had to negotiate my route based on what was above me as well as what was on either side of me.
I was surprised that that amount of galvanised steel netted only £1.63 - there's a vast variation in the prices for different metals - but the whole point was to make sure it will be reused so that's fine.
This afternoon I went with friends to see My Favourite Cake, a film co-written and directed by Iranians, Maryam Moqadam and Behtash Sanaeehamade. It was filmed in Iran about the constraints on lives as a result not only of that oppressive regime (which has resulted in the directors being persecuted in Iran) but also, more universally, of age. Which makes it sound tedious and worthy but it absolutely isn't. I loved it - witty, humorous, poignant, honest, delicate, bold... Have to say, though, that my two companions weren't so keen.
