From 1880’s - Side saddle suit.

This morning I went to the Blandford Fashion Museum thinking they had a big display of Laura Ashley outfits…but….although there were a few the main displays were of sports outfits ( linking with the Olympics this year) from various eras. Quite a lot from 2012, Tammy Grey Thompsons outfits and racing wheelchair from 2000; tennis , cricket and swimming outfits from various ages . Also from the 1880’s this portrait and clothes that belonged to that lady…a smart riding suit for using on a side saddle which had a special ‘apron’ at the front. Although you sometimes see these worn in films I had not seen one closeup.

This is the museum that I am going to donate my mother’s wedding outfit to later this year when they are ready to accept it. While I was there a whole group of students from our enough University who are studying costume design were being shown around.

After this I drove to my brothers house in the village where I grew up , visited my parents graves and then we went out to lunch to a restaurant I had not visited before housed in a huge barn.

My drive back home on the A303 and M3 went well..2 hours door to door which is as good as it gets! Also nice and sunny.

Feeling tired and needing a quiet evening.
