Rainbow Abstract
I love the effects I can get with the slow shutter app. This is an ICM using the app. I'll let you guess what I used as my subject. I'm pretty predictable.
I felt myself coming down with a cold last night, couldn't sleep, John snored, I moved to the guest bed, still couldn't sleep. I gave up all attempts at sleep when Spike snuffling outside the door this morning and dragged myself out of bed. Coffee helped. So did a very short walk down to the creek. It seems that a lot of wildlife had the same idea we had this morning...to get out and do the necessary before it got hot.*We encountered our resident deer herd coming up from the creek, crossing the road and bounding up to the fields behind the houses where they seem to spend their days. There was a very handsome 4.point buck overseeing his harem, three does and several young ones, but I could only get a picture of the doe in extras in decent light. (1st extra). They're quite used to us and let us get fairly close before bounding off.
The resident flock of 22 turkeys was just jumping over the fence from Janet and Paul's property to ours, crossing the driveway and spread out all over the lawn pecking and scratching...They always have one sentry on top of the fence or in a tree.
I had thought that we would try and get our Covid and flu shots this morning, but they aren't keen on giving it to people with colds and I wasn't keen on going out into the heat anyway. I will test myself for Covid just in case, but I'm quite sure this is just a garden variety cold.
The rest of the day was spent finishing the Klee inspired quilt. All I have left to do now is the border....If it's cooled off enough we'll sit out on the porch and admire the fact that the eucalyptus which grew from nothing to the height seen in the second extra is gone. It's on our neighbor's property so I texted her and asked if was ok to take it down. It blocked the view of the big house next door but it was also blocking the view of the canyon and is a fire hazard. Dorie said 'go for it' so while Pedro's guys were here fixing the irrigation and mowing what's left of the lawn, they cut down the eucalyptus.
*We are in the third day of 100+F temperatures, and each day they extend the red flag (heat) warnings, the Spare the Air warnings, and the fire warnings for another 24 hours. After two days of these temperatures, the ground itself has heated up and keeps it from cooling off as much at night. We haven't resorted to leaving the AC on at night yet, but it's not clear whether it is very beneficial to leave the bedroom door open.
