Morning Glory
Woke up to a truly beautiful morning… clear skies with a bright warm sun, and the air was cool and crisp. The school run traffic in Canterbury seemed to have got the memo too, and the roads remained relatively clear – I was able to get into town, decant two teenagers, and escape in record time. I really wanted to catch the morning light while it lasted so I stopped at a favourite patch of woodland near Coldred, and parked on the roadside.
The rising sun illuminated the foliage beautifully, and golden rays shone out from behind the branches. Spoilt for choice with nice compositions, I settled upon this as my favourite. Later, editing the image, I was puzzled by the lighting in the scene; the tree in the foreground is a lot brighter than it should be in a backlit scene like this one – I actually had to darken it slightly during the edit. I finally realised that in the woodland shade, my car headlights had automatically switched on behind me, resulting in a bit of unintentional light-painting…
