Oranges and lemons.....
We ate the last piece of the 2023 Christmas cake this week which means it must be about time to make the 2024 cake. That will be done next week but today was the day for making up the mincemeat for the mince pies.
Now, if you're the sort of person who only ever eats one mince pie on Boxing Day when your Aunt Florrie comes round for a natter and a sherry (Really, dear? I don't drink, you know. Well, maybe just a small one...) it's probably not worth making your own, but if you're partial to the odd mince pie or three over the festive season it's well worth it. Tastes so much better than anything you can buy in the shops and (although I don't claim to have been the one making it) it's really easy; bung all the ingredients in a bowl to soak for a few days and then bottle it. By Christmas the flavour will have really nicely matured.
