Well, Well, Well?
A big night in Siamsa Tíre, Tralee, the National Folk Theatre, as the culmination of a year's work with the Artist on the holy well art project came to fruition. The gallery space was bright and white and the fine art prints looked good and as did the chapbooks containing a series of essays and images. In the adjacent room the short arthouse film was on a loop and people could just wander around and watch as they felt like. Talks were short and sweet as Marie, the Artist, explained her vision, I waffled on about mine and then the exhibition was officially opened by Alan Cooke, poet, writer and Emmy awarded filmmaker who we had met on our travels. The evening was wrapped up in lively fashion by Sonny Egan, who we had also met on our travels - rambling man, musician, and story teller. It was brilliant! And as has been typical of this journey, a wonderfully diverse collection of people came to support us, from an Emeritus professor at Trinity to the Dingle Druid to healers to writers to artists to storytellers to musicians, to people who shared their stories, to farmers to historians and to those who had accidentally wandered in to one of our workshops! And of course the most remarkable people of all - the well custodians, shown here in my main photo. What a very special group of people and what an extraordinary project and adventure. Before we left Tralee today (Friday) Himself and I enjoyed a quiet rewatch of the film - actually rather wonderful.
The exhibition is on in Tralee until the end of the month and will then move to West Cork for November. Some serious chilling is now in order!
Photos courtesy of Himself, apart the one showing the film and that's my friend Gail's.
