The end is neigh......

What a day...
Dry with a wind first thing,so got my combine contractor to come and bake a start on 20 acres of spring barley. Left Kev carting in grain while I had to go next door to help wee brother get a calving cow in. When I put my hand in I could feel the calf was head first but upside down ,so had to call the vet out . She gave the cow some drugs to help open her up a bit and managed to get the calf turned the right way up. Once we put the calving jack on it came out ok and alive.
Headed back home hoping to try and bale some straw, only to be called back next door to help bring in another cow.
This one had two knees and a crown of the head when I started .I managed to get the calf pushed back enough to get the head sorted out, then managed to get both legs moved into the right position. Again, a wee pull with the ropes and calving jack and we got her calved. Unfortunately this one was dead ,so will need to try and get a calf to twin on to her.
Eventually managed to get the 20 acres of barley cut by 4 pm after a few stops due to rain showers.
They then shifted down to the last field at Gorebridge. I had to go and cart too,so didn't get any straw baked at all.
Well,at least that's all the harvest cut, later than some years, but not as late as many.
Now just need to worry about getting all the acres of wet straw dry enough to bale.....
The joys.
